ABOUT US

The operation of the ŽabaTeatar is based on the recognition and affirmation of young artists, extending them the opportunity to explore their potential, demonstrate their talent and create artistic credibility at an early age, based exclusively on serious, difficult and virtuosic roles. We are building a theatre on stories that reflect reality, shaping them with dedication, and our mission is to create performances that are simultaneously beautiful, contemplative and contemporary, always guided by care and responsibility.

The repertoire of the ŽabaTeatar insists on texts that have rarely or never been performed in our region, with the aim of building a free platform for bold and unconventional projects. We strive to merge different artistic disciplines that question the boundaries of aesthetics through intellectual challenge. Although the atmosphere of our performances is based on romantic elegance, each performance reconsiders timeless phenomena such as the collectively recognizable, the transcendent, the appealing or the astounding.

We encourage the audience to immerse themselves in something deeply personal, sometimes silly, insane or terrifying, but in doing so, we bestow upon them a gift of an irreplaceable moment of escapism.

Performative art is ethereal and elusive; its matter is energy, but each of our performances is created so that it lives on and is built upon in the audience’s memory and feelings.

ŽabaTeatar is a theatre company of the Lovro&Nina Art Organization, led by pianist Lovro Pogorelić and his wife Nina, a musicologist and independent producer. Together with their daughter Ana, they run the PagArtFestival and the Little Upper Town Festival in Zagreb.
