Ivan Viripajev, often called the “Chekhov of the 21st Century”, places the dynamic plot of the love quartet in a timeless capsule.

At the heart of Illusions lies the problem of communication between the characters. Initially, the drama unfolds through a cabaret prism of narration and sound; as the story progresses, the boundaries between narration and musical accompaniment dissolve, and text and music emerge as equal performers.

Vyrypaev poetically stylizes the interplay and transformation of characters through a subtle exchange of male and female energies, acknowledging that both coexist within each of us.

Every relationship becomes a constant game of illusion and reality, and through Vyrypaev’s drama, the audience is invited to create their own truth.

Illusions is a play we all live. Its poetics erase the boundaries between the possible and the impossible, awakening imagination and a sense of utopia until the very end.
